"Wonderin"

Tobymac is a stand-out Christian performing artist who just so happens to be one of my favorite musicians in all genres. His new song, Wonderin', off of his new album, "Tonight", has lyrics that just will not get out of my head.

You may ask, "How does this relate to a New Jersey mindset?" Well it does without much doubt in my mind. At least where I grew up in Northern New Jersey Christian Culture was absolutely never ever ever the norm. If it weren't for my sister attending Eastern University, I wouldn't know this school existed, bands like DC Talk and Newsboys would have never danced to a beat in my ear drums and my life would be drastically different.

In this post I just would like to shortly address the gratitude that I hold towards my sister. I am Italian, so I have to love my family unconditionally, but I would love my family even if I didn't have to.

Rather than leaving all my readers with a sense of sappiness I am going to post the lyrics to Tobymac's "Wonderin'" Please comment back and tell me how these words affect you directly...Listen to the song and then tell me you think.

"Wonderin'"

Well I'm wonderin' bout the road ahead of me,
Wonderin' bout the things you said to me,
Wonderin' if these dreams will ever do.
And I'm wonderin' bout the way I spend my days,
Wonderin' if it's even worth the chase,
Wonderin' if there's still a need from you.

(Uh) We didn't know what to do
You were lookin at me and I was lookin at you
We were thinkin' it odd but we were thankin' our God
For the hope that He put down deep in our hearts
And yo, without a second to think
We was turned around and we were makin that bank
And we was ridin in style clockin them miles
With the songs that He put down deep in our hearts

Well I'm wonderin' bout the road ahead of me,
Wonderin' bout the things you said to me,
Wonderin' if these dreams will ever do.
And I'm wonderin' bout the way I spend my days,
Wonderin' if it's even worth the chase,
Wonderin' if there's still a need from you.

Yeah, it's been a minute my friend
And you and I, we never thought it would end
But when we stopped to pause and opened the doors
There's some dreams that were put down deep in my heart
But hey, I'm always thinkin of you
And I can see your influence in the things that I do
Think and thin, forever my friend
Cause there's a vine that was put down deep in our hearts

Well I'm wonderin' bout the road ahead of me,
Wonderin' bout the things you said to me,
Wonderin' if these dreams will ever do.
And I'm wonderin' bout the way I spend my days,
Wonderin' if it's even worth the chase,
Wonderin' if there's still a need from you.

We didn't know what to do
You were lookin at me and I was lookin at you
We were thinkin' it odd but we were thankin' our God
For the hope that He put down deep in our hearts
And hey, if I could turn back time
I wouldn't touch a day I wouldn't shade the shine
Cause I do know this, I won't be remiss with the memories locked away in my heart (locked away in my heart..)

Parsippany

Oh,Parsippany. My home, sweet home. For all of you out there who have never experienced North Jersey, welcome to the number 13th best town to live in America, Best in New Jersey. Every major highway in New Jersey leisurely cuts its way through this town. I love this town very much and all of its nonsense and shenanigans.

Traffic never ends, the middle finger is its own art form, and stupidity is not tolerated. North Jersey is not the easiest place to assimilate into but it may instill those who grow up in its culture with the most unique point of view in the world. For some reason many other areas believe that Jersey residents believe they are better than the rest of the country, well that's wrong, we know we aren't better but we are just real. Of course there are those jokers that catch the national eye, with their greasy hair and poor ability to articulate. They are not what we call Jersey, they are posers and we do not endorse that form of idiocy.

Now that you understand that North Jersey residents are real, now let me explain what a normal day in Parsippany is like. In Parsippany, we like to wake up and drive to school or work, step out of the house and embrace the sirens and loving car horns. Many people commute to New York City (technically 20 minutes away but traffic makes it at least an hour each way)and there is no better breakfast than a Taylor Ham, Egg, and Cheese sandwich on a bagel from a local bakery. For all you non-Jersey residents Taylor Ham is the best stuff out there. Its also called Pork Roll, its delicious a cross between Canadian bacon and ham, and its just good.

There is so much to write about Parsippany, again traffic, good times playing in the streets with my friends growing up, walking to elementary school, getting pizza at the 17 different pizzerias on one street, and just chilling. The most peculiar part about growing up in Parsippany that there was always so much to do that it actually made us very bored, and we were to say the least, over stimulated. Parsippany is a good town, if you can make it there you have a good head start into living the North Jersey lifestyle. Come visit sometime, my mom will throw some eggplant parm in the oven and pour you a glass of wine, just come bearing dessert.
